Between January and February, award ceremonies are all the rage. The Oscars, Grammys, Golden Globes, SAG awards, you name it. In the spirit of award season, the lovely Brolly in a Baby Shower nominated me for a Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award (thank you, Brolly!).
The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Awards celebrates unique voices of women in the blogosphere. It is a great way for bloggers to tip their hat to writers who they enjoy reading, and for readers to get to know the people behind the blogs a little better. The process is simple: each nominee answers ten questions, and then pays it forward and nominates other bloggers. It is hard to trace back the original source of the tradition, but being the geek that I am, I just had to try. I wasn’t able to find who started the awards, but I did discover that the first mentions of it online seem to have been in February 2001, exactly 14 years ago. How cool is that?
Part I: Ten Questions, and My Answers
What secret behavior do you only engage in when you’re alone?
When I tried to think through whether there’s anything I only do when I’m alone, I couldn’t think of any behavior my husband hasn’t been exposed to over the years that we’ve been together. So anything I don’t (usually) publicize that I do – such as dancing awkwardly to 30 Rock’s theme song – my husband has seen me do on multiple occasions…
What is the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?
I believe that overthinking embarrassing experiences is counterproductive, so I pretty much repressed them all… The most recent embarrassment I remember was when we had guests over for dinner, and one of them found my hair in the muffins I baked for them. Fortunately, it was before he actually ate the muffin.
Who would play you in a movie?
Meryl Streep. Yes, I know she’s much older than I am, but if Meryl Streep plays you in a movie, that’s when you know you really made it.
What’s your biggest regret?
Not trying to conceive earlier. I was trying so hard to perfectly time my pregnancy that I forgot to take into account that it might actually take longer than I think.
It’s the small moments that make me happy: getting a good result on my fertility bloodwork, having someone enthusiastically share my post on a social network, eating ice cream just because I feel like it. Whenever I’m down because of infertility or other challenges in life, I try to remind myself that these small moments of happiness are all around us.
What makes you laugh?
The upcoming post of The Modern Husband (if he doesn’t get cold feet). It’s hilarious. Stay tuned.
Who is your embarrassing celebrity crush?
Sorry, all my celebrity crushes are widely acceptable, so much so that even my husband understands…
When did you last cry and why?
Last week. Three hours on the phone with my fertility clinic and my health insurance company would bring anyone to tears, guaranteed.
What three things could you not live without?
My family, my yoga mat, and my laptop (with Wi-Fi, of course – I need my daily fix of The Modern Belly, Netflix and social media).
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what song would you choose?
Listening to the same song over and over again for the rest of my life? Sounds like a nightmare. I think I’d go instead with a soothing track of white noise, and just sing all my favorite songs in my head. Or out loud – apologies to everyone who has to listen.
Part II: Nominations
One of the best things about launching The Modern Belly is all the love and support I’ve been getting from fellow infertility bloggers. My nominees are all part of this incredible community. Many great bloggers have already been nominated (check out Brolly’s and Unpregnant Chicken’s lists), and I’d like to add even more inspiring women to the roster. Screw You Stork, Mindful Muma-to-be, Sad in the City and Bubbles and Bumps – your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to answer the following questions:
1) Explain the name of your website
2) What do you like most about blogging?
3) What was the last book you read, and what did you think about it?
4) What did you want to be when you grew up?
5) What word or phrase do you use too much?
6) What do you do to de-stress?
7) What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
8) What thing have you learned about yourself that surprised you?
9) If your website was about a different topic, what would it be?
10) What has been your most popular blog post to date, and why do you think that is?
Part III: The Rules
If you are nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award and choose to accept it (which is completely up to you – no pressure here), these are the rules:
1) Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their site
2) Feature the award logo somewhere on your site
3) Answer the ten questions addressed to you
4) Nominate 4/7/10 bloggers (I’ve seen all these numbers out there, and the way I see it, it’s really up to you)
5) Write ten new questions for your nominees
I hope you enjoyed getting to know me better, and I look forward to reading the answers of my fellow bloggers.
